P3 and P4 Visit Tesco's, Dungannon for Farm to Fork Programme.

On Tuesday morning, Mrs Moore and Darren travelled to Dungannon with the P3 and P4 boys and girls to take part in Tesco's Farm to Fork programme. We were learning about different types of food and finding out where different fruit and vegetables come from. We learnt that some of our food travels over great distances before it reaches the supermarket shelves in Dungannon. eg. We found some apples from France, strawberries from Spain , Passion Fruits from South Africa and Avocado from Brazil. We also had the opportunity to look at the food labels on different products to find out the amount of fats, carbohydrates and proteins each contained. We were amazed at the amount of fat that some products contained. After all our hard work on the shop floor, we were taken upstairs and treated to some healthy snacks and drinks. We tried some different flavours of water, using lemon, mint, strawberry and melon. We were impressed with how adventurous many children were as they tried new fruits eg. papaya.
