Cancer Focus Workshop
P4 pupils were Food Detectives today when we had a special talk about the importance of making healthy choices with the food we eat. Rebecca, from Cancer Focus helped us to investigate different types of fresh or whole foods and compared them to processed foods, such as sausages, chicken burgers etc. We explored the various amounts of salt, sugar and fat that are contained in different foods. It was staggering just how much some foods contain. We learnt that a child should not consume more than 4g of salt per day. A regular child's Happy Meal from Mc Donalds contains 4g of salt, 55g of fat and 45g of sugar! We also explored the use of traffic lights on food labels and made predictions about different foods. We really enjoyed being Food Detectives. This work links in well with the work that P4 have been doing in recent months with Mrs Loane and Mrs Bruce on making healthy choices when we eat. Rebecca was very impressed with our P4 display of sugar cubes in different sweets and sweet drinks. RRSA: Every Child Has The Right To nutritious Food.....
